Hiking Tours
1st tour: short hike at the barrage
Leaving the clearing at Vadvíz Campsite, for the dam weir, we can see the sluicing. Here we can look at the C variant, which are the Slovakian dams of the diverted Danube. Turning north, we go on a gravel road on the left bank but upstream the Old Danube up to the barrage, where we take a turn and walk back to the car waiting for us.
2nd tour: medium-length tour in Cikolasziget to the fish pass called Denkpáli
We start by car from Danube Street, Cikolasziget. Then we proceed eastward on the dike, and turning right we head for Nyáras-Island. Getting through the dam here, we are on the stone dam on the left bank of the island where the fish pass can be watched as well. Then turning right, we can get to the dam on a farm road from where back to the starting point in Cikolasziget.
3rd tour: walk on the educational path of Lipót (two hours long)
The starting point is the Holt-Duna Campsite in Lipót. First we head for Dunaremete. At the end of the village, we turn right and next to the lake of Remete getting over the dike, we reach the landing place of Remete. From there, we proceed back towards the dike where at the first ramp down on the left, we walk back to Lipót. Passing a grassy field, we turn right reaching the bank of the Dead Danube. Along the bank, we are back at the campsite.
4th tour: the preserve of Hédervár
To get to the preserve, the most practical is to start from the main entrance of the castle when we go on the left of a nice park opposite and across Hársfa Street. Then we walk along a line of trees in the north of the then count’s peacock farm. Six avenues of this kind meet in the middle of the forest which is supplemented by a walking path of roughly round-shaped. Since the level is a bit higher here due to the cares of the count and the villagers, this northern part of the forest is quite suitable for outings even in wet conditions. The Kárászos Brook winds in the forest through more than two km. It is an especially amazing walk in the shadows of the many trees. There is a relatively big clearing in the middle of the forest where the six avenues come together. Turning right at the clearing, we can walk down the south-western avenue up to the other ferro-concrete bridge over the stream, where turning left after the bridge we can reach the estuary of the Moson Danube in a few minutes along the narrow path at the stream. Standing under the big tree there, you can get a view of hundreds of meters of the windings of the river, the reeds and gallery forests.
